Project Description: The St. Elizabeth Medical Center Third & Fourth Floor project consists of phased additions and renovations to the third and fourth floors totaling 155,000 square feet.

 

The renovations to the third and fourth floors involved the existing patient rooms, nurses stations and support spaces.  These areas were extensively renovated resulting in virtually 100% new space.

 

The additions extend the third and fourth floors out over the existing second floor roof and beyond the existing building's footprint.  This new, state-of-the-art space houses an operating suite with 10 operating rooms, recovery rooms, inpatient procedure rooms, a 16 bed intensive care unit and all of the associated nurses stations, staff rooms, locker rooms, offices and other required support spaces.

 

The size of this project required that a new heating plant be constructed to house new, larger boilers due to the inability of the existing boilers to support the additions.  The switch over from the old boilers to the new boilers was accomplished without interruption to the hospital's need for heat and hot water.
